Srinagar (which in turn is a local transformation of the Sanskrit name Surya-nagar, meaning "City of the Sun" or "City of Wealth") is the largest city and the summer capital of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir known for its Lakes, houseboats and Gardens. It lies in the Kashmir Valley on the banks of the Jhelum River (Called Vyath in Kashmir), a tributary of the Indus, and the Dal Lake and Anchar lakes. Apart from these, there are some other lakes such as Nigeen Lake, Wular Lake (one of the Largest fresh water Lake in Asia), Anchar, Khushal Sar and Gil Sar. It is also one of several places that have been called the "Venice of the East". Srinagar has some Mughal gardens, forming a part of those laid by the Mughal emperors across the Indian subcontinent. Those of Srinagar and its close vicinity include Chashma Shahi, Pari Mahal, Nishat Bagh, Shalimar Bagh, and the Naseem Bagh. Other famous Hindu Shrines are the Shankaracharya Temple, which lies on a hill top in the middle of the city, and the Kheer Bhawani Temple are important Hindu temple in the city.
On arrive Srinagar Railway Station / Airport, transfer to your hotel, check in the hotel and stay overnight.
After breakfast, climb up to the ancient Shankaracharya Temple perched on a hilltop. The fort-like temple provides a 360-degree early-morning view of the entire Srinagar valley, and visit the famous Mughal Gardens. Explore Nishat Bagh (Garden of Gladness) and Shalimar Bagh (Abode of Love), built with terraced lawns and cascading fountains. Stop at Pari Mahal (The Palace of Fairies), a seven-terraced historic monument offering panoramic views of the lake. In the evening, relax on a 1-hour sunset Shikara ride on Dal Lake.
After breakfast, buy some local products and checkout from hotel. Transfer to the railway station/airport to drop off.
