"Kasauli is a cantonment and town, located in Solan district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The cantonment was established by the British Raj in 1842 as a Colonial hill station, 77 km from Shimla, 65 km from Chandigarh, and 94 km from Ambala Cantt (Haryana), an important railway junction of North India. Nestled amidst beautiful woody forests of pine and cedar trees, Kasauli owes its mystical and serene ambience to the lavish Victorian buildings built by the Britishers who resided here years back. These structures speak volumes of the glorious past of this hill station. A lot of endangered species of fauna are also found in the dense forests in this region. Kasauli is not about particular attractions or activities, but about the serene environment and enchanting calmness that it provides. Arrive in Kasauli by road via Chandigarh (60 km) or Delhi (290 km). Check into your accommodation—opt for a peaceful valley-view cottage or a boutique resort like Baikunth Resorts to avoid the crowded market center. Walk down to the historic Christ Church, an iconic building featuring stunning stained-glass windows dating back to the British era. Enjoy a simple lunch of hot Maggi, momos, or a local stuffed paratha at a nearby cafe. Head over to Sunset Point to view the changing colors of the sky over the pine-covered Shivalik hills. Private vehicles are restricted, so you will need to park at the multilevel parking lot and walk or take a local taxi.
Start early to catch the misty morning views over the valley. After a Healthy Breakfast, walk along the Gilbert Trail, a short, peaceful dirt path surrounded by lush greenery and wildflowers. It is an excellent spot for birdwatching and low-impact hiking. Visit the highest peak in Kasauli, featuring the Sri Hanuman Sanjeevani Devalayam temple. According to the Ramayana, Lord Hanuman's foot touched this hilltop while carrying the Sanjeevni Booti. Spend your evening exploring Mall Road. Browse the shops for wooden handicrafts, hand-knitted shawls, and locally produced fruit wines. Enjoy street food snacks like kulhad chai and garam pakodas.
After breakfast, check out of your hotel. Visit the 19th-century Gurkha Fort in nearby Subathu/Parwanoo to view 180-year-old historic cannons. Alternatively, if you have access through a member, take a tour of the colonial-era Kasauli Club, also. On your drive back down towards Chandigarh or Delhi, stop at Parwanoo for the Timber Trail ropeway. Enjoy a scenic 1.8-km cable car ride over a deep gorge, surrounded by green hills. Grab lunch at the mountain-top resort restaurant before beginning your final journey home.
