The city of Jodhpur was founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, a Rajput King of the Rathore clan. Jodha succeeded in conquering the surrounding territory and thus founded a kingdom which came to be known as Marwar. It is well connected with major Indian cities by all means of transport -roads, railways,s and Air. Jodhpur is a popular tourist destination, featuring many palaces, forts and temples, set in the stark landscape of the Thar Desert. It is popularly known as the Blue City and Sun City among people of Rajasthan and all over India. The city is also said to be the cultural capital of the Rajasthan state.
Arrive in Jodhpur and check into your hotel. Head straight to Mehrangarh Fort, one of India's largest and most well-preserved forts. Explore the intricate courtyards of Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, and Sheesh Mahal. Walk down from the fort to Jaswant Thada, located just a kilometre away. Admire this peaceful, white marble cenotaph built in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Walk through the surrounding manicured gardens and lakeside paths. Head into the old city to see Toorji Ka Jhalra, an 18th-century stepwell. Relax at the adjacent Stepwell Café for a quick coffee with a view. Walk over to the bustling Sardar Market surrounding the iconic Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower).Shop for traditional Rajasthani textiles, bandhani fabrics, and local handicrafts. Enjoy a traditional dinner at a rooftop haveli restaurant overlooking the illuminated fort.
After breakfast, Get Lost in the BlueCity. Wake up early to explore Brahmapuri, the historic old town area. Take a guided tour, like the Jodhpur Blue City Walking Tour, to discover hidden alleys. Capture photos against the vivid indigo-washed houses. Hike up to Pachetia Hill for a panoramic view of the sun-drenched city. Opulent Living. Drive to the grand Umaid Bhawan Palace, part-museum and part-luxury hotel. Explore the royal museum housing antique clocks, porcelain, and weapons. View the striking collection of vintage cars parked on the palace grounds. Take a 15-minute cab ride north to the Mandore Gardens. Walk among the unique, red sandstone cenotaphs resembling Hindu temples. Watch the mischievous langur monkeys that roam the garden pathways. Return to the city for a hearty Rajasthani Thali dinner.
Start your day at Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park, right next to Mehrangarh Fort. Walk the trails to see reclaimed volcanic rock terrain and native desert plants. For thrill-seekers, book a ziplining tour with Flying Fox to glide directly over the fort's trenches. Check out of your hotel and spend your remaining hours indulging in Jodhpur’s street food. Try the famous Pyaaz Kachori and Mahiya Mawa Kachori at Janta Sweet Home. Cool down with a thick, saffron-flavoured Makhania Lassi near the Clock Tower. Head to the Jodhpur Airport or Railway Station for your onward journey.
