Jaisalmer is a beautiful Golden city that is situated in Rajasthan, India. It was founded in 1156 by Maharaja Rawal Jaisal, and due to his name, the city came to be known as Jaisalmer. The city is situatednear they Thar Desert and the buildings are made up of yellow sandstone. The city has forts, palaces, Jain and Hindu temples and many other structures that the tourists can visit. The World's only living fort is located on Trikuta hill and built with yellow stone and has a golden colour due to which the fort is also called Sonar Qila or the Golden Fort. Arrive in Jaisalmer via train or flight, and check into a city hotel. Explore one of the world's only fully "living" forts, where a quarter of the city's population still resides inside the stone walls. Wander the narrow pathways and check out the stunning Jain Temples with their intricate medieval stone carvings. Walk through Patwon Ki Haveli, a spectacular cluster of five grand mansions built by wealthy traders, featuring ornate wooden and stone balconies. Stop by the nearby Nathmal Ki Haveli to see its unique exterior guardian elephants. Head to this historic artificial reservoir to catch the sunset. Watch the golden light reflect off the lake’s artistic shrines and gateways.
After breakfast, drive just outside the city to Bada Bagh to admire a majestic collection of carved stone cenotaphs dedicated to the royal families of Jaisalmer. Head west towards the dunes and stop at this eerie, abandoned 13th-century village. Legend says the entire Paliwal Brahmin community vanished overnight, leaving behind a cursed ghost town named Kuldhara. Desert Camp Arrival & Traditional Welcome: Arrive at your luxury desert camp at Sam Sand Dunes (or the quieter Khuri Dunes if you prefer fewer crowds). Receive a traditional welcome with a tikka ceremony and live folk dhol beats. Desert Safari Adventures: Hop onto a camel or book a 4x4 Jeep Safari to go deep into the sweeping dunes of the Thar Desert for an exhilarating dune-bashing session. Sunset Over the Dunes: Sit on top of the golden sand crests to witness a brilliant desert sunset. Rajasthani Cultural Night & Dinner: Return to camp for an evening around a central bonfire. Enjoy live Kalbelia folk dance performances and puppet shows, followed by a buffet dinner. Luxury Desert Swiss Tent. (If visiting between October and March, step outside late at night for spectacular stargazing under light-pollution-free conditions.
Early Morning (Desert Sunrise): Wake up early to catch a peaceful sunrise over the dunes. Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the camp mess tent. Late Morning (Historical Detour): Check out from your camp and head back toward the city. On the way, explore the ruins of Khaba Fort, another abandoned outpost that offers wide panoramic views of the desert plains, or visit the nearby Amar Sagar Jain Temple.Afternoon (Departure): If you have a few hours left before your train or flight, stop by the Jaisalmer War Museum on the highway to see military exhibits and real vehicles from the historic Battle of Longewala. Drop off your bags at the station or airport for your journey home.
